I thought it might be interesting to look into how web design and digital design as a whole are borrowing from more traditional art forms and vice versa. People are creating some very interesting pieces of art and design using mixture of mediums. Photoshop has a massive part to play, it’s probably one of the most versatile applications, allowing you to create pretty much anything.
Designers are applying a more handmade approach to their web design layouts these days, as we see decorative patterns, shading and surface textures being used more and more, Designs now look more organic, more akin to magazine publications. With immersive high resolution background images, and creative illustrations. I would just like to highlight some example of creative art and design, which feature elements from traditional mediums, including some of my own artworks which are created as digital painting or traditional oil paintings on canvas.
Florian NICOLLE – Neo
Created using Bic pens watercolour paints, with textures applied using Photoshop. Its interesting to see work being initially created in a traditional medium and then finished off using Photoshop.
A really nice, clean design with a vintage feel, it mimics the style of pop art. The subtle use of surface texture, character illustrations and the desaturated pastel colour palette all work quite well together.
And…some of my work
These next few pieces were created by myself, the first two are digital paintings sketched freehand and then painted, the other one is an oil painting on canvas.
